ECRCHS Speech and Debate

El Camino Real does not officially fund the Speech and Debate team. Thus, when it comes to tournament expenses we require additional financial assistance. Every month we hold fundraisers at local restaurants. Every year we go to various corporations, law firms, and politicians to request sponsoring our team. Our official coach is our teacher sponsor, Mr. Maury. However he does not have significant experience coaching and thus the team is predominantly student-run and student-coached by the cabinet members. Moreover, this has not affected our success as we have several state and nationally ranked competitors every year. With paying for official coaching out of the question, we try to allocate our funds to assist financially-disadvantaged students in being able to afford long distance trips for out-of-state tournaments.
