Meet the Team!

President Shawn Haq
Shawn is a senior and has led the team to unprecedented success over the past 3 years. He has qualified to State and Nationals every year since he joined the team. He was the California State Champion in Congressional Debate by the largest margin in history and also championed the Stanford University and Arizona State University tournaments. In October 2015, Shawn was elected President of the National Speech and Debate Association's Student Leadership Committee.

Secretary Jasmine Moheb
Jasmine is a sophomore and this is her second year on the team. Last September she was among the first novices to advance to the Semi-Final round at the first tournament at CSU Long Beach. Since then she worked hard and selflessly to organize multiple fundraisers to help finance the team's out-of-state competitions, even when she wasn't going on those trips. Additionally, she occasionally helps run after school practices and liasons with Student Council.

Historian Mustafa Waheb
Mustafa is a senior and this is his second year on the team. At his first tournament ever he showedgreat promise by advancing to the final round in novice Congressional Debate at CSU Long Beach. Moreover, in keeping up with his potential he took 1st place at the next league tournament in the novice division and since then has done very well in Congress.

Vice President Gabriel Salazar
Gabriel is a junior and this is his second year on the team. As a sophomore he qualified to both State and Nationals in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and Congressional Debate, respectively. He demonstrated great talent, skill, and promise by taking 1st place at his first novice tournament, and nearly picket fencing (Getting ranked as 1st by every single judge). He also advanced to the Final Round at the 2015 Stanford University Debate Tournament last February.

Treasurer Sarah Kiamanesh
Jasmine is a sophomore and this is her second year on the team. Last October she got her first trophy, 3rd pace, in Novice Congressional Debate at Hart High School. Since then, she has been an active member on the team, particpating in a wide variety of events. She has also helped organize many fundraisers to finance the team's out-of-state competitions

Madinah Najib
Madinah is a senior and this is her second year on the team. She nearly qualified to State last year but fell short by a few mere points. Nevertheless she has shown exceptional talent and skill by going undefeated at the Taft HS Debate Tournament and advancing to the Final Round at the Stanford University Debate Tournament.

Deputy Historian Madison Kalvert
Madison, junior at SOCES, has had success in a wide variety of events ranging from Dramatic Interpretation to Congressional Debate. She is always kind enough to photograph both our team's victories and losses whenever we need a helping hand, and thus, has earnt the title: Honorary ECR Speech and Debate Deputy Historian.
